Targus discloses a cyberattack after hackers are identified on file servers. 

Manufacturer of laptop and tablet accessories. Targus stated that it had a cyberattack that disrupted operations after a threat actor got access to the company's file servers.

Targus is a mobile accessory firm recognized for its attractive laptop backpacks and carrying cases. The company also offers tablet cases, docking stations, keyboards, mouse, and travel accessories.

Targus' parent firm, B. Riley Financial, INC., stated in a Monday evening FORM 8-K filing to the SEC that the laptop bag maker identified hackers on its network on April 5th, 2024.

 As part of this attack, a threat actor got access to Targus' file systems, prompting the business to implement incident response policies.

"Upon discovery and with assistance from external cybersecurity counsel and consultants, Targus immediately activated its incident response and business continuity protocols to investigate, contain and remediate the incident," according to the document.

"Through this process, proactive containment measures to disrupt unauthorized access resulted in a temporary interruption in the business operations of the Targus network."
Targus believes the situation has been controlled, and they are working with external cybersecurity specialists to recover internal systems.

Companies frequently shut down their IT systems in reaction to a cyberattack to prevent the attack from spreading to other servers and devices.

However, this inhibits lawful access to internal programs and data, causing temporary disruptions in corporate operations while servers and workstations are restored as needed.

The company has not announced whether corporate data was stolen, however given that the hackers were originally discovered on the company's file systems, used to store files and data, it is probable that data was exfiltrated.

The company says it has contacted regulatory agencies and law enforcement about the unlawful access to information.

BleepingComputer approached Targus with inquiries regarding the attack, but no response was immediately available.
No ransomware gangs or other threat actors have taken responsibility for the attack.
